Craig Van Der Horn, Head Coach, High School Varsity
Craig fell in love with lacrosse the first time he saw the sport. He was in middle school when he watched his first game, and just knew that he had to play. He played goalie at Bellevue High School as a Sophomore thru Senior year. His team won the State Championship during his Senior year.
After high school he switched to defense and played in the Men’s Lacrosse league here in Seattle. He began coaching Girl’s Lacrosse in 1997, working with goalies for the Mercer Island Girl’s Lacrosse club. As the sport grew and more teams were added, he was called upon to coach his first team. He has coached at the JV level, Division II and Division I. In 2007, he was awarded the Division II Coach of the Year Award by the Washington School Girls Lacrosse Association.
The game of girls lacrosse appeals to him because of the gracefulness in which the game can be played. Craig says, “Lacrosse is a game of skill and grace. When you get bit by the lacrosse bug it stays in your blood forever.”
